Gent Coach Lament Over Failed Pursuit Of Super Eagles Striker Onuachu

Paul Onuachu completed his transfer to Racing Genk on Thursday, signing a five-year deal that will keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2023-2024 season.

KAA Gent's Danish coach Jess Thorup has revealed that they were interested in signing the Nigeria international before he agreed terms with the Belgian champions.

Thorup knows all about the qualities of Onuachu as he managed FC Midtjylland for three years, from 2015-2018, before  taking over the managerial reigns at Gent.

''I certainly did. We lost Alexander Sørloth this summer and needed a new striker,'' says Jess Thorup to Herning Folkeblad.

''And I would have liked to have taken Paul. But he became a few millions too expensive for us.''

Racing Genk reportedly paid six million euros plus bonuses to sign Onuachu from Midtjylland, making him the most expensive Nigerian player sold by a Danish club.
