The young Nigerian was briefly classed as a Tottenham Hotspur player but the plot thickens.
The curious case of Musa Yahaya just got a little more so, with Own Goal Nigeria reporting what they claim is the reason Tottenham Hotspur sold him so soon.
The Nigerian signed for Spurs following a very impressive under-17 World Cup but with the deal never officially announced, Tottenham fans would be forgiven for wondering who on earth he is.
Things got stranger when Yahaya left Tottenham for Portimonense without a single appearance at any level for the North London club. However that was not the end of the story, with FC Porto paying £650,000 for the 19-year-old shortly after.
Yahaya’s agent later told Noticias Ao Minuto that fee was going directly to Tottenham, so whatever happened in the interim it seems Spurs made a tidy sum for a player that never even pulled on their shirt.
Now Own Goal Nigeria claims Tottenham had a pre-contract agreement with Yahaya’s nursery team Mutunchi Academy to sign the player when he turned 18, but that news of the agreement leaking online breached the confidentiality that was supposed to be part of the deal.
As a result, Tottenham sold the player to Portimonense (for £250,000), who in turned sold him to Porto (for £650,000).
Confused? We wouldn’t blame you. But do not be surprised if this is not the last Tottenham fans hear about a player who could one day be the answer to a quiz question if nothing else.
