The Rise to stardom of Alex Iwobi!

Alex Iwobi is proving himself a boy wonder this year. The young Nigerian has already solidified himself in the starting lineup for both club and country. The performances of the youngster this season has attracted nothing but accolades from the media.

20-year old Alex Iwobi has been on the books of Arsenal since 2004 when he was just seven years old, but it wasn’t until the tail end of last season that the world would take notice of young Alex.

The games against Watford, Everton and West Ham in the concluding fixtures of last season proved to be the games with which Iwobi would prove to Arsene Wenger why he deserved to be starting Arsenal games.

Last season, the skilful Nigerian scored in Arsenal’s 2-0 victory at Everton and also scored in the 4-0 thrashing of Watford earlier this year. A few days later, the youngster provided two assists in the 3-3 draw against West Ham; Arsene Wenger had seen enough! Iwobi wasn’t going to be a fringe player anymore.

The new season kick-started and Iwobi smoothly slipped into the flow; now a mainstay in the Arsenal starting lineup, the Nigerian has torn to smithereens the few opposition he had come up against this season. I watched this guy (Iwobi) poke holes in my team’s defence in Arsenal’s 3-0 victory against Chelsea and I wondered why the duo of N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic couldn’t eclipse this guy -he was the best player on the pitch that day.

In the 4-1 Arsenal home win against Hull City, star-boy Iwobi looked practically unplayable! He didn’t score, but he was involved in everything Arsenal had going forward -He provided two assists on the day.

So far after seven games for the Gooners, Iwobi has provided three assists in all. Aside from being named Man of the Match in the game against Chelsea the young lad also won the voting for a similar award against Hull.

This weekend Iwobi brought his club form to international level. The Lagos-born attacker volleyed home to set the pace for a 2-1 away victory for the Super Eagles in their opening game of the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Zambia. Iwobi was a joy to watch all through that encounter.

What Alex Iwobi have going for him

He’s young

Alex Iwobi was born on 3rd of May 1996 in Lagos, Nigeria; the young man only turned 20 in May this year. Playing so well at such a young age and at such a top level requires refined talent and that is exactly what Iwobi portrays. His young age and talent have diverted the limelight towards his path.

He’s creative

Iwobi’s eye for goal and a wide range of passing makes him one of the most creative players in his age category. The level of finesse and composure he shows in the final third of the pitch defies his age. England must be ruing missing out on such a creative player -imagine Dele Alli and Iwobi in the same team; mouth-watering prospect.

He plays for Arsenal

Playing at Arsenal is one of the best things that can happen to any young and talented footballer. The reason for this is not far-fetched; you get to play under Arsene Wenger, who remains one of the best managers of young talents in the world.
