Nigeria skipper John Obi Mikel is in line to make his 250th Premier League appearance for Chelsea when they face Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.
It took the defensive midfielder longer than expected to be in a position to reach that target because he was away with the Nigerian Olympic National Team when the season started and was given a break at the end of the competition.
As a result of his absence, the 29-year-old Mikel was unavailable for selection against West Ham, Watford and Burnley.
There had been fears that he would have to sit out this weekend’s tie with Swansea City following his substitution against Tanzania last Saturday in an African Cup of Nations qualifier but he resumed training upon his arrival at Stamford Bridge.
It remains to be seen if the Blues coach Antonio Conte will give him a run out against The Swans.
